For garments this house has made — taken in, let out, re-hemmed, re-pressed.

What this is

A garment is not finished on delivery.

Bodies change, and a commission cut for one shape can usually be moved to another. Seam allowances here are cut generously precisely so this is possible later.

We alter garments made by this house. We do not alter other houses’ work — not out of snobbery, but because we did not draft the pattern and cannot promise the result.

What we do

Common work.

Taking in and letting out

Within the seam allowance, which on our garments is deliberate and generous. Most pieces move a full size in either direction.

Re-hemming

For a different shoe, or a hem that has dropped with wear. Rolled again by hand, the way it was set.

Pressing and repair

Beading re-set, a seam re-stitched, a train pressed before it is worn again. Booked in the quieter afternoons.

Practical

Booking a fitting.

Bring the garment and the shoes. If the piece is going somewhere in the next fortnight, say so when you write — the workshop schedules around dates, not requests.

Cost: Quoted at the fitting, before any work
Turnaround: One to three weeks depending on the work
